Button mushroom is the most common mushroom in the world, and also the default mushroom in Western recipes. It’s less common in Asia. Its Chinese is 口蘑 meaning mouth mushroom in literal, while the default mushroom 蘑菇 usually refers to oyster mushroom.

Button mushroom is the default mushroom in British supermarkets. It’s usually called closed cup mushroom. The white button mushroom is called just closed up mushroom. The brown one is called chestnut mushroom. The brown one is more flavourful but the white one is more common.
